Rainbow Mandala, 2016
I was in New York City on a cold, wintery day. There’s a certain chill in a New York winter that I remembered well, having grown up there. There was a flower shop still open as the pale gray day began to become a muted charcoal. I ran in - mostly to warm my hands - and I noticed this amazing flower. I had never seen anything like it before. When I brought it back to my hotel I immediately began taking photos of it, afraid that it would soon begin to wilt after my cold walk through Manhattan. I called this flower Rainbow Mandala, because a mandala is a Buddhist symbol of the universe and a rainbow represents hope. On a cold, bleak New York City afternoon this was just what I felt I needed.
